Patapsco Valley TU continues work in Morgan Run NEA with special projects and trout stocking. The trout
stocking lead by Keith Albright is a well coordinated operation run twice a year and
occasionally in the Fall if water levels are high enough. Please contact Keith to get
on his list of helpers. Without enough hands on the stocking boxes, we cannot successfully
float stock the stream. Contact >>
In May of this year we began much needed maintenance of the fishermen's
paths with brush cutting over a half mile stretch of stream starting
at Klee Mill and going down stream. Don Sparr, Keith Albright, Jim Kennedy,
and Ted Godfrey worked with chain saw and various trimmers to open up
this path. We now have much better access to a number of good, but widely
spread out pools where fish congregate if they drift down stream from
the principal stocking area around Klee Mill.
This Spring Keith Albright contacted DNR Patapsco State Park office
and instigated work to resurface the old roadway extension of Jim
Bowers Road down to the stream. Our chapter has donated partial payment for
gravel and transport. Pictures below show the operation and finished
work. This is a lowland area subject to washout and mud deposition and
will need periodic resurfacing. It is important to maintain this roadway
because it is access for the DNR stocking truck for much
faster and safer float stocking of the upper catch and release area of Morgan
Run.
Resurfacing Jim Bowers Extension Roadway
|
The piles of two inch gravel - Approximately
80 tons of gravel were delivered in four truck loads to the foot of
Jim Bowers Road. The extension to be resurfaced begins behind the
gate in the background. |

Dave Fishbach, DNR with front loader at the gravel piles -
First, the mud had to be removed to expose the stone base; then a heavy layer of two inch gravel
was put down. |
Stalwart PVTU member Ed Bimiller with float boxes
- Ed has been stocking Morgan for at least 15 years now and here
he is again getting everything ready for arrival of the stocking truck.

|
About two months after resurfacing - The surface
is now stable and ready for next delivery of rainbows or browns in the stocking
truck.
