Little Morgan Study
|
middle area of Little Morgan - This is a beautiful little meadow stream
with a pretty good channel condition only showing relatively small areas of gravel bars.
The meanders are indicative of a low gradient stream and the grass growing down into the stream are
a good indication of some flood control in the upper watershed above this farm. |
|
A riffle and pooling area - The
stream is starting to undercut the vegetated far bank which is great
habitat for fish. |
|
No backbreaking this time as we used tables to pick insects -
Eric and Steve work a sampling that can take 10 or 15 minutes of careful picking because many
insect larva are barely big enough to see.
|
|
A riffle and lovely old farm house -
The scenery was always great and added much to our experience on the
stream. The rock structure in the riffles was "imbedded" meaning it
was partially buried in silt and sand. This limits the amount of hiding
places for insects. |
